LEXECON: The international research network on economics lexicon

The Department of Economics and Management of the University of Pisa, in collaboration with the Centro Interuniversitario di documentazione sul Pensiero Economico Italiano (CIPEI) https://cipei.unipi.it/ it/), offers thr ee traineeships of 4 to 6 months each to master s students or young graduates from European universities within the framework of the Erasmus+ Traineeship Programme, and of the LEX E CON research programme of the University of Pisa.

The traineeships are aim ed at the creation of a bibliographical database and a specialised corpus of digital texts on economics published between the eighteenth and the twentieth century, written in one of the following languages:

  • Italian;
  • English;
  • French;
  • German;
  • Spanish;
  • Portuguese.

Trainees will experience a lively multidisciplinary research environment at the intersection of economics, history and linguistics. Under the guidance of the Department s researchers, they will follow the full production pipeline of a digit al corpus of texts and learn computer assisted techniques in the following areas:

  • production of bibliographic record s and their metadata;
  • processing of annotated digital texts: scanning, OCR recogniti on, error cleaning, mark up and linguistic annotation;
  • linguistic analysis of texts.

Although the activities focus on economic texts, the skills acquired are transferable to the entire humanities and social sciences area.

Applications are expected from master's students and young graduates in:
linguistics;

  • European literatures;
  • humanities (history, philosophy, anthropology, digital humanities);
  • economics;
  • political and social sciences; political and social sciences;
  • computer science;computer science.

Traineeships will take place in Pisa at the CIPEI premises (Department of Economics and Managem ent, Via Cosimo Ridolfi 10); due to the health emergency related to the Covid 19 pandemic, however, trainees can also ask to carry out their activities remotely.

Internship languages:

  • English or Italian (at least B1) for communication;
  • Italian, English, French, German , Spanish, Portuguese (at least for research related activities.
