Some of SoMu teachers (Prof. Pēteris Vanags), graduates (PhD student Frederik Bissinger) and current students (Raquel Raggi, Arianna Grasso, Annika Klein) organized and / or attended the 5th Baltic Conference at Stockholm University, which took place on 6-7 October 2017 at Stockholm University.

The 5th edition of the Baltic Student Conference “Bridges in the Baltics” welcomed more than 60 students of different nationalities who came from various Baltic countries to partake in the conference in Sweden. The students´ research made a precious contribution to the current state of art in the research fields of linguistics, ethnography, history and literature. Besides delving into a wide variety of topics, the student conference was also a multilingual event as the presentations were held mainly in English but also in Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian. The conference represented for the participants a unique occasion to learn about interesting linguistic or sociocultural phenomena within the Baltic area, to broaden their knowledge in their fields of interest and to create an international network, which will definitely benefit their future academic careers. What is more, the conference was an exceptional moment of intercultural sharing, at all levels, which highlighted how distinctive in its richness the Baltic area is, in spite of the peculiar differences between the singular Baltic countries.

New and old participants are already looking forward to living this marvelous experience next year, when the 6th edition of “Bridges in the Baltics” will take place in Tartu! Stay tuned!
