The international joint-degree program International Master in Sociolinguistics and Multilingualism hosted the 1st SoMu symposium on the topic “Multilingualism, Identities and Language Ideologies,” which was held at the University of Mainz on May 15th and 16th, 2014. The symposium focused on the following topics:
•    Fluidity of identities in multilingual contexts
•    Languages and identities in exile
•    Vitality of heritage languages in the context of migration
•    Linguistic identities and language ideologies
•    The concept of “Homeland” in exile discourses
Papers at the symposium were presented by both teachers and students. The presentations were followed by an informal part of the meeting for sharing ideas on academic and non-academic issues. It served as a reunion event for SoMu teachers and students :)
