NB: Non-EU students:

In order to get enrolled at JGU, you need to have health insurance that equals the insurance plans of the German public health insurance. Your insurance plan must be valid for the entire period of your studies (2 years).

If you purchase a health insurance plan in your home country, you need to check with any of the German state insurance companies (e.g. AOK, Techniker, BARMER) if they accept your plan. If they don’t, you can either take out health insurance with them (approx. 115 euros/month) or get private health insurance in Germany. That is usually cheaper. However, before you purchase any private health insurance plan, check with the state insurance companies if they accept that plan.

If you are from Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia: There are agreements between Germany and these countries. Check with any of the German state insurance companies if they accept your health insurance plan.

If you are older than 30: You are not obliged to purchase health insurance. You can ask any of the German health insurance companies to issue an exemption. However, you need to make sure anyway that you have sufficient (private) health insurance to meet visa requirements etc.
