Application Procedure

The application procedure is co-ordinated by VMU International Office.

Required documents for admission to SoMu:
- On-line application form;
- High School diploma;
- Bachelor / Master degree diploma and its supplement (transcript of records / mark sheet) in the original language and translated into English (if not in Lithuanian or German) and
officially approved  by “Apostille” (for citizens of countries acceding to the 1961 Hague Convention) or certified by other officially recognized body Or Legalized by the Centre of Quality Assessment in Higher Education in Lithuania – for other countries' citizens;
- Curriculum vitae (in English);
- Copy of your passport or other document of identification;
- Copy of document showing paid application fee of 100 EUR (where the name of the applicant and the date of payment are indicated);
- Recent passport size photos (3 x 4 cm) (you will upload them to the application form on-line);
- Document of health insurance and its copy;
- Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung (only for students who have been registered before at a university in Germany).
- Students from non-partner universities are asked to provide a proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.).

* Applicants who acquired their education in countries not acceding to the 1961 Hague Convention should get a legalization of their educational documents by the Centre of Quality Assessment in Higher Education and recognized by the Ministry of Education in Lithuania. More information is available on the centre’s website.
All application documents (scanned) must be submitted on-line or arrive (by regular mail, if it is stated so in on-line application) at the VMU International Office by the application deadline and must be either in English, German or Lithuanian language. The translation (to English) must be certified by a Notary. Please note that incomplete or late applications will not be processed.

How to Pay the Application Fee
The application fee 100 EUR (not refundable) should be paid before sending the application documents. Bank transfers can be sent directly from your bank to Vytautas Magnus University’s bank account.

For International Students
Temporary Residence Permit and Entry Visa
Students who are EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA citizens entering Lithuania must have valid passports or ID cards. EU/EEA citizens are required to apply for the right to reside in Lithuania if they stay for more than 90 days. They can obtain a Temporary Residence Permit for studies in Lithuania at the Kaunas Migration Office after having arrived in Kaunas, for a period not longer than one year.
All students who are non EU / EEA citizens must obtain a residence permit from the nearest Lithuanian embassy or consulate in their home country. It is also important to check if a visa is also required to enter the Schengen area.

Required documents for Migration Office

For EU Citizens to get the permit to stay and study in Lithuania:
- Application form;
- Passport (or ID card) and its copy (last page with a photograph);
- An official letter from university (provided by International Office);
- A copy of Rector’s order regarding your acceptance for studies at VMU (provided by International Office)
- Bank statement (with the amount 1500 Eur per year) If the account is not in Lithuanian bank, the statement should be translated into Lithuanian.
- Document of health insurance and its copy;
- Payment cheque for Temporary resident permit 12 Eur.

Documents for other countries citizens to obtain a (D) type Visa to come and study in Lithuania:
- Passport (or ID card) and its copy (last page with a photograph);
- Application form;
- 1 photo (size: 34x45mm);
- An official letter from university (provided by International Office);
- A copy of Rector’s order regarding your acceptance for studies at VMU (provided by International Office);
- A copy of  health insurance
- Document concerned your living place in Lithuania – usually it is written in university provided document;
- Bank statement ( with the amount 1500 Eur per year)
- Payment check for visa 60 Eur.
